Yesterday, i sat in the xpen with Willow to see if see would target my hand for treats. After a few seconds, i think she felt okay to touch my hand. Of couse, i didn't make eye contact and had to sit sideways so as not to imtimidate her. I was happy with a few touches to my hands. Slow progress with her but still progress. Wyatt is willingly targeting my hand and is now making eye contact when i bring out the treats. Yeah!  The rest of the dogs are so excited when i get the clicker out. They are offering all kinds of behaviors for a click and treat. So i'm thinking they are going to like this fostering thing since mom brings all the GOODS out when they are here.  They all  breifly acknowledge each other but otherwise just ignore each other. When Wyatt was snuggling up on the couch with me, i saw Paco try to get Willow to play with him. She sniffed him a bit but that was it. i am letting the dogs explore the kitchen and living room. For the most part, Wyatt just wants to snuggle on the couch by me and Willow searches for him for awhile and when she realizes he is hanging out on the couch, she then will settle down on the floor where we are. They are both easily startled but i think it will get better with time. I took the dogs for a long walk yesterday and today. They are doing really good. Mostly they follow behind me. They aren't quite confident to be along side of me yet. It really does help that my dogs show them what to do.  Later this week i will be putting the dogs up on Petfinder so they will be available for adoption. I think i will be taking Wyatt to a meet and greet in Fon du lac  at the Petsmart on Saturday. I'm hoping he will get adopted soon. He really is a little love bug.

Willow and Wyatt have been doing really good the last few days since their arrival on Sunday. They are learning to walk on a leash and what is like to snuggle up on a couch.  They both decided they like toys and chews. They are meeting new people and dogs at the shop.It is very heart warming to see them experience what the good life has to offer them. They both have a hearty appetite. They are keeping their pen clean which i am thrilled about and are going potty right away when they go outside. Today i am going to the Milwaukee Pet Expo. Our rescue group will be there. I won't  take the dogs just yet. This is a BIG event and would be too overwhelming for them. But i have a picture of the two cutie patooties to show people in case they are interested in adopting a pair of dogs. Wish me luck!

This morning i awoke to find a mess in the dogs' exercise pen. Willow pulled off her doggie diaper and  proceeded to eat it sometime during the night. I expected this to happen sooner or later. Boy did they smell up the house. Anyways, today was their first day at work with me. They did pretty good considering the circumstances. They both had a nice warm bubble bath and had a chewy while they rested. I am finding out that Wyatt is a real love bug and seems to crave affection. He fell asleep in my arms tonite while we were watching t.v. (that melted my heart).Willow is still very cautious but i think in time she is going to warm up and enjoy life. I have also found out that they are definitely going to have to be adopted together or have another buddy if adopted seperately.

Yesterday we drove to Eau Claire to pick up Wyatt and Willow. They were transported from South Dakota to Minneapolis where they spent the night with another volunteer from our group. They were both very scared but willingly took tidbits of cheese and sausage from me. To me, that was a VERY GOOD sign. They are timid but seem to enjoy petting. They are in an exercise pen in the middle of all the action in our house. They are learning what clanging of pans are and dishwashers running, the sound of tv and radio. I am extremely happy that they are peeing and pooping when they are outside. I am clicker training them and already have Wyatt targeting my hand for treats or a good scratch behing the ears. They will follow me around out in the yard and are responding the way i had hoped they would. I took them to my vet to be micro chipped today and did very well. Tomorrow, they will  be getting a bath as they are a little bit stinky but i didn't want to overwhelm them today. I have high hopes that they will soon find a loving forever family of their own.

Help save a Life! Adopt!

If you are interested in Adopting Willow and Wyatt please contact me.

Willow and Wyatt are a bonded pair of 7 year old Shih Tzus and need to be adopted together. A suitable home would be a low-keyed home. Perfect for a retired couple who would be home with them to continue their training. They are very sweet and good. Willow is the more shy of the two but she has made tremendous progress and now even engages in playing tug of war with me. A far cry from her arrival into foster care. She would cower in her cage-afraid to come out. But now she is adjusting to life outside of a puppy mill. Please consider adopting this adorable pair.
